With each passing day, humanity is changing the world and the ways in which we perceive it. This can largely be attributed to the development of Virtual Reality (VR) and Augmented Reality (AR). Just like with all the other spheres, this one isn’t safe from the influence of the blockchain technology either. VR/AR experts are starting to see how this technology can improve this field and are beginning to implement it in their work. With no further ado, here are five best projects implementing blockchain in the VR/AR field.

1. Ceek (CEEK)

Powered by the blockchain technology, Ceek is a distributor of social virtual and augmented reality experiences and hardware, whose aim is to change the way people consume entertainment and education. Specifically, the Ceek VR system gives its users a chance to experience concerts and shows virtually, with a plan to add educational seminars, sporting events, charity events, and more into its offer in the future, all through smart contract governance.

This awarded project already offers immersive VR experiences in its own CEEK CITY which includes a theater, a concert arena, and sports venues. By signing a partnership agreement with Universal Music Group, Ceek has secured itself the rights to broadcast live performances of top artists of today, such as Katy Perry, Lady Gaga, Sting, U2, etc. inside its VR environment. From what we have seen, and provided that they continue with this pace, Ceek has a lot in store for it in the future and is evidently one of the best blockchain projects in the VR sphere so far.

2. Decentraland (MANA)

Powered by the Ethereum blockchain, Decentraland is a (decentralized) VR world that allows its users to create, experience, and monetize content and applications, with a full control over their creations.

Using virtual reality goggles and helmets, users can access this virtual world, visiting casinos, concert halls, shopping malls, even starting their own business (keeping their proceeds of course) and more. With a market cap of $55 million in December 2018 and over 20,500 token holders, it is no surprise that Decentraland is one of the best and most important VR platforms out there, with an incredibly bright future ahead of it.

3. VibeHub (VIBE)

VibeHub specializes in volumetric video technology, which they believe is the future for video production. VibeHub offers a wallet service and a VR marketplace allowing everyone to buy or sell VR experiences using the VIBE token. In addition to hosting social features such as profiles and posts (like with Facebook), it is also planning to introduce a dating platform like Tinder.

Given the fact that they have already captured over 100 photorealistic hologram performances across three categories: music, education, and comedy, and have great plans for the future, we cannot wait to see it all in motion and we predict quite a success for them.

4. Lucyd (LCD)

A new blockchain-based augmented reality (AR) company based in Singapore, Lucyd deals with developing smartglasses and hosting an eShop for cutting-edge technological eyewear. To be more precise, Lucyd has a mission to provide the world’s first blockchain-fuelled eyewear. Making light and comfortable smartglasses, Lucyd already owns 13 advanced AR patents.

You can already purchase a lot of their cool products, such as the Lucyd Loud frames and the launching of the Lucyd Lens is envisioned for Q1 2019. We have already browsed through their eShop a bit and we are excited about what we have seen. Should they keep up with the good work, the Lucyd team is bound to continue its success in the future.

5. Cappasity (CAPP)

Calling itself the “premier platform for creating, embedding and selling 3D digital assets”, Cappasity is a decentralized AR/VR ecosystem for 3D content exchange. It allows the creation of various forms of media, including AR, VR, and 3D, with each bit of data assigned a unique hash and then stored on a blockchain to avoid copyright issues.

The Cappasity ecosystem covers content storage, a decentralized copyrights storage, CAPP wallet, Internal Exchange, API for third-party developers, free utilities and modules for connecting to the platform via websites, as well as mobile and VR/AR applications. Being such an impressive platform already, we strongly believe in Cappasity and its capacity (no pun intended) to remain one of the strongest blockchain-powered AR/VR platforms in the world.
