The tourism industry is blockchain’s best bet as blockchain technology has the potential to solve the issues plaguing it.

Whenever you want to travel somewhere, you need to deal with many different players involved, buying airline tickets, booking hotels, finding activities, navigating airports, renting cars, exchanging currencies, and all those activities incur hidden costs… And as for recommendations on which places to visit and what to do when you get there, you have to rely on thousands of strangers’ reviews on platforms like Yelp.

So naturally, some blockchain projects have stepped in to try and address at least some of these issues. Let’s take a look at five tourism-related blockchain projects that have caught our attention.

1. Cool Cousin (CUZ)

Cool Cousin (CUZ) is a travelling recommendation dApp that allows busy travellers to learn from locals about the best spots at their destination, instead of relying on strangers’ Yelp reviews, travel agents, etc. Operating since 2016, Cool Cousin is already a respected and working platform, with many positive reviews and a large user base on all continents.

Recommended by the New York Times, Guardian USA Today, and National Geographic, Cool Cousin has an exclusive currency used for a range of services such as concierge, travel agent, tips, affiliate linking, and more. With everything we’ve seen, this project has a great future.

2. Winding Tree (LIF)

Winding Tree (LIF) is a blockchain-based open-source travel distribution platform with an aim to make travel cheaper for the end user while driving higher profits for the suppliers (hotels, airlines, etc.).

In short, Winding Tree connects the suppliers and sellers (travel agencies) into a single marketplace via its platform, allowing suppliers to put information about their price and availability onto the database, to be easily discoverable by sellers.

The platform allows the sellers to buy that inventory, paying instantly. The Winding Tree software can already be integrated with other platforms and they have already made significant partnerships, including with Lufthansa, Air New Zealand, Swissport, Austrian Airlines, RSK (Rootstock), just to name a few, and has caught the attention of the media like Business Insider, Reuters, Forbes, etc. Winding Tree definitely looks like a strong platform with a bright future.

3. Beenest (BEE)

Beenest (BEE) is a P2P home-sharing platform that connects customers and hosts, allowing them to arrange and pay for stays. The platform removes unnecessary fees, while still keeping users safe with payment, reputation, and arbitration protocols.

The platform is already in its alpha version and is powered by the utility BEE token used for making payments through smart contracts which ensure complete security and fairness of all transactions.

A great thing about Beenest is that its users must be KYC-verified (Know Your Customer) and peer reviews cannot be tampered with because they’re published on the blockchain. All things considered, Beenest is a great platform offering immense opportunities for both hosts and guests.
